Foreword

The Handbook of Statistics on Indian States, which is being brought out by the Reserve Bank annually since 2016, provides state-wise statistics on a wide range of socio-economic indicators of the regional economy of India, viz., social and demographic characteristics, state domestic product, agriculture, industry, infrastructure, banking and fiscal developments.

This fourth edition has updates of the existing data series and its coverage has been expanded to incorporate three more indicators, viz., (i) agriculture and allied activities (production of milk, meat and horticulture crops); (ii) infrastructure (ease of doing business ranking, electricity transmission and distribution losses, availability of doctors/ specialists and telephone subscribers per 100 population); and, (iii) social and demographic (urban and rural unemployment rate).

This publication is the result of committed efforts of a team comprising Dr. Ramesh Golait, Shri A.K. Jha, Shri Kunal Rahar and officials from the regional offices under the overall guidance of Dr. Rajiv Ranjan, Adviser and Officer-in-Charge of Department of Economic and Policy Research.

The Handbook is available on the RBI’s website (www.rbi.org.in)
