Local Area Banks were set up in the year 1996 with a view to ensuring provision of efficient and competitive financial services in their area of operations. Local Area Bank Scheme has now been in operation for the last six years. To undertake a review of the operation of the scheme it has been decided to constitute a review group. The review group will make appropriate recommendations in the matter and submit its Report to the Reserve Bank by September 2002.
