Foreword

The Reserve Bank’s annual ‘Handbook of Statistics on the Indian Economy’ serves as a comprehensive reference for macroeconomic and financial data. It presents data on a range of variables related to output, prices, money and banking , financial markets, public finance, foreign trade, balance of payments, and select socio-economic indicators, at multiple frequencies. Researchers, analysts, and students use this resource, including its near real-time on-line version, to track India’s economic progress and for empirical studies and analyses.

Over the years, the coverage and accessibility of the Handbook have expanded. This, the 28th edition of the Handbook, comprises 245 statistical tables contributed by various Departments of the Bank generating these statistics. The time series, presented in the Handbook, together with those available in several other RBI publications, are accessible through the Reserve Bank’s data portal, the Database on Indian Economy (https://data.rbi.org.in). The Handbook is also available through the RBIDATA mobile application, further enhancing public access to these macroeconomic statistics.

The publication has been prepared by the Data Management and Dissemination Division (DMDD) in the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM), under the overall guidance of Shri N. Senthil Kumar, Adviser-in-Charge, and Dr Yogesh Kumar Gupta, Adviser. The sincere efforts of the DMDD team led by Dr Manjusha Senapati, Director and comprised Dr Prabha Jadav, Smt. Anjaly Maria Jose, Shri Srijan Hazra, Shri Sanju Das, Ms. Mary Rafflesia Chackochan, Shri Ajay Kumar and Smt. Pooja Nile ensured that present print edition is being released 30 days ahead of the publication date of the previous edition.
