The Kolkata Regional Office of the Reserve Bank of India is located at B B D Bag, formerly known as "Dalhousie Square", amidst heritage buildings, such as, Writers Building. The Central Office of the Reserve Bank was initially established in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1935, before shifting to Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1937. The first building of the Reserve Bank known as "Currency Building" is a heritage building under the Archeological Society of India and is situated in the vicinity of the main building. Adding splendor to the Reserve Bank's heritage is the old Central Office building (now ZTC) which is located at Council House Street. At present, the Regional Office conducts supervision of banks, including urban co-operative banks, non-banking financial companies, miscellaneous non-banking companies, other financial intermediaries as also currency management and financial inclusion.
