The dearth of original writing in the field of banking in Hindi was being felt for a long time. To overcome this and to promote original writing in Hindi on economic/financial topics Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, Governor, Reserve Bank of India announced an award scheme for “Excellent writing in the field of banking in Hindi”. Under this scheme, the Professors from Universities across India will be awarded with three cash awards worth ₹ 1,25,000/-(One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand) each for writing their books originally in Hindi on economic/financial/banking subjects. The terms and conditions for the scheme will be announced by the Reserve Bank shortly. Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, Governor, RBI made this announcement during the valedictory ceremony of Rajbhasha Golden Jubilee Celebrations marking the completion of 50 years of establishment of Rajbhasha Department in the Bank. The valedictory ceremony was organized at Y. B. Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai on May 24, 2016 at 5.00 PM. On this occasion, nine distinct publications of Rajbhasha Department were also released. During the event, Dr. Rajan awarded the prizes to the winners of Rajbhasha Shield Competition, Bilingual and Hindi in-house magazine competitions for the year 2014-15 and Essay competition 2015-16. On this occasion, Shri S.S. Mundra, Dy. Governor while congratulating the winner banks and financial institutions mentioned that the use of Hindi language in the banking sector is not limited to the compliance of statutory obligations. The language of customers connect them in important areas like customer service and marketing. Hence, it is necessary to adopt Hindi and other Indian languages to expand the customer base and maintain the profitability of business. Shri Anup Kumar Srivastava, Secretary, Rajbhasha Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India graced the occasion as distinguished guest. On this occasion a cultural night was also organized in which eminent personalities from the field of Cinema, Literature, Journalism and Banking such as Shri Anupam Kher, Shri Rahul Dev, Shri Ravish Kumar and Shri Murali Radhakrishnan took part in the talk. Shri Ashok Chakradhar, Smt Deepti Mishra, Smt Mumtaz Nasim and Shri Akhilesh Tiwary presented poems in the kavi goshthi. Shri Deepak Singhal, Executive Director welcomed all the guests from banks and financial institutions. Smt. Surekha Marandi, PCGM, Rajbhasha Department and Dr. Ramakant Gupata, GM (Rajbhasha) presented vote of thanks in the main function and the cultural programme respectively.
