Issue of new Coins of ` 5 with the theme "ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE"

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation coins of ` 5 with the theme "ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE".

The coin of above denomination shall conform to the following dimension, design and composition, namely :

Obverse : The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “mel³ecesJe pe³eles“ inscribed below, flanked on the left upper periphery with the word “Yeejle“ in Hindi and on the right upper periphery flanked with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the denominational value "5" in International Numerals below the Lion Capitol flanked on the left lower periphery with the word “©he³es“ in Hindi and right lower periphery with the word "RUPEES" in English.

Reverse : The reverse of the coin shall bear the image of "BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE" and the statue of "KING RAJA RAJAN-I" of Chola Dynasty with folded hands, with inscription "yeÉnoréejj cebfoj kesÀ 1000 Jeøeõ" in Hindi, on the left periphery and " 1000 YEARS OF BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE" in English on the right periphery and "lebpeeJetj" in Hindi and "THANJAVUR" in English below the picture. The Year "2010" in international numeral shall be inscribed below the picture.

The coins are legal tender as provided in the Indian Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupees Coins in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender.
